Major Works Tracker
A centralized factual record of significant infrastructure, energy, and civic developments within the Uralla and Bundarra districts. This tracker provides residents with direct access to project timelines, planning documents, and environmental impact statements to ensure regional transparency
Current Projects
New England REZ "Port to REZ" Road Upgrades
Large trucks carrying wind turbine parts and massive transformers will be coming through the region. This project upgrades the New England Highway and local roads to make sure they can handle the weight and that regular traffic isn't blocked for too long.
Timeline: Major construction of "pullover bays" and intersection widening starts in 2026.
Expected Outcome: Better road safety and fewer traffic delays during the construction of the big solar and wind farms.
Uralla Groundwater Project (Stage 3)
This project is looking for a "Plan B" for our water. Following the severe drought years, Uralla Shire Council is drilling and testing bores to see if we can use underground water to top up Kentucky Dam when it gets low.
Timeline: Construction and licensing of production bores are slated for 2026–2027.
Expected Outcome: Greater water security for the Uralla township so we don't have to rely solely on the dam during dry spells.
Provision of Specific Purpose Access Licenses are expected February-March 2026.
Hill Street Affordable Housing Project
A joint project between Council and Homes North to build new, affordable homes on Hill Street. It’s currently in the design and planning phase using local grant funding.
Timeline: 2026 is the target for finalising designs and securing major construction funding, with building expected to follow.
Expected Outcome: More housing options for local workers and residents who are being priced out of the market.
Council gave the community-owned land, because it is a co-investment and represents a way to get new affordable homes built in Uralla, with the right safeguards in place.
Bundarra Sewerage Scheme Maintenance & Upgrades
Ongoing work to ensure the sewerage system in Bundarra is reliable and meets modern environmental standards.
Timeline: 2026–2028 (Rolling infrastructure updates).
Expected Outcome: A cleaner environment and a more reliable utility service for Bundarra residents.
The project cost approximately $8.81 million, with significant funding ($6.354 million) provided by the NSW Government’s Safe and Secure Water Program.
The project was officially commissioned in early 2022.
Pioneer Park & The Glen Precinct Upgrades
This is the final push to turn these central spots into "destination parks." Expect new art installations, better walking paths, and improved facilities for families.
Timeline: Final stages wrapping up in 2026.
Expected Outcome: A more vibrant "heart" for the town that attracts visitors and gives locals better recreational spaces.
